Borden Cheese-Make Your 4th of July Cookout Something Special
I like cheese. There are very few cheeses that I have run into in my life that I didn’t like…and those cheeses I didn’t like smelled like locker room feet. But, I had never tried a flavored cheese before; first of all cheese already has a distinct flavor and second of all…well doesn’t the idea of flavoed cheese strike you as a little odd? But, when I received this review offer I was feeling adventourous (and hungry) so I decided to say sure…what was the offer for? It was to try out the three latest flavors of Borden Single Sensations…which are basically flavored cheeses.
Now let me start off by saying that I expected to get coupons to go to the store and buy these cheeses…have I mentioned I am not a huge fan of going to the grocery? Well, I didn’t have to. UPS range my doorbell I went to get the package and inside were samples of the cheeses…that’s right I didn’t even have to leave my house to get them. Point Borden. I received the Sun-Dried Tomato Basil, the Applewood Bacon Chedder, and the Southwest Pepperjack. Now, I happen to be a big fan of grilled cheese with tomato and basil so I decided to give the tomato and basil one a shot first and I made grilled cheeses for lunch (the kids got the regular american cheese…I wasn’t abou to share my stash just yet). The cheese itself melted like regular cheese and smelled really really good; after eating that sandwich I went back and made myself another one. I like it…I really like it a lot. It is best when served hot so that it is still all gooey and runny, and it is a perfect upscale grilled cheese that you can make right at home.
The next cheese that got tried out was the Southwest Pepperjack. Hubby was complaining that the mexican rice I made was bland (hey I never said that I was a cook), so he melted some of the pepperjack on top of it added some salsa can pronounced it good. I then tried it out on a hamburger that hubby grilled and I thought it was a bit too much flavor for the burger…but I used it when making a burrito (I melted it in beans, chicken, olives and salsa) and it was the perfect amount of flavor. So I like the Southwest Pepperjack when you are looking to make something with a more spicy flavor.
Finally comes the Applewood Bacon Cheddar. I am not a huge meat fan so this one was going to be the toughest to convince me on. I used this one of a regular burger and it made it a pretty darned good one. Kind of like one of the fancy burgers you can get at Red Robin (wait is that a local thing? If it is…Red Robin is a resturaunt that specializes in burgers). It tastes good and adds a nice touch to something that is otherwise kind of boring burger…yeah I consider plain hamburgers boring.
So overall I really like these. I say that the tomato basil is really good for snacks and grilled cheeses (it’s my favorite!), the southwest pepperjack is good for spicy(ish) or mexican like dishes (burittos, tacos, spanish rice, anything that needs a bit of a pop) and the applewood cheddar is good for burgers. Do I suggest Borden Single Sensations? Yup! Am I going to be buying them? Yup! Did the fact that I got this for free influence my opinion? Nope.

This is a great review, I am always looking for new foods to try. I hope they give out coupons in the paper soon, because then I will forsure have to give them a try. When you were talking about the Applewood bacon cheder on a burger I really think I felt my stomach grawl.
