DexBaby-Creators of the MilkBank Storage System and Memory Foam Sleep Positioners

Submitted by Victoria Arya on December 22, 2009 – 5:41 amNo Comment

Some of you probably know that I happen to know that I breastfeed, but even so, I happen to firmly believe that even breastfeeding moms should have a small store of breast milk so they can have a bit of away time if they need it.  And I am a firm believer in the fact that mommies need some time away…even if it is just for a quick trip to get your nails done or whatnot.  In an effort to make breastmilk storage easier and healthier, Dex Baby came out with the MilkBank Storage System.  What is this system?  It’s basically storage bottles along with a vacuum pump which you use to pump air out of the storage containers, thus making it a more sterile environment for the milk and also helping to keep the essential nutrients in breastmilk from breaking down from air exposure.  I had the opportunity to test out the MilkBank Storage System from DexBaby to see how it worked and what I thought.  First the pros.  I like the idea behind the storage system, I like the idea of keeping breastmilk as nutritious as possible.  The system is easy to use and I tested out the storage bottles in both the freezer and the fridge and they held up perfectly well.  It was also simplemilkbank storage system enough to defrost the storage bottles and to create a bottle for Emmy, although I should admit that she didn’t take it (she’s spoiled LOL).

Now, while I like the concept behind the MilkBank System as well as its ease of use, I have to admit to the fact that if I were going to be storing more than a small amount of breastmilk, I probably wouldn’t use this system.  For storing say one to three bottles worth it’s fine.  But, if you are a working mom or an exclusive pumper you would have to buy a lot more storage containers and they are more expensive than the other options out there.  Now, this is a more personal choice than anything else since there isn’t anything wrong with the system and it does provide a real benefit for the user; it all comes down to finances and what you can afford to do.

The second product that I reviewed from DexBaby was their Secure Sleeper Sleep Positioner.  Now, I happen to be a co-sleeper…I know that isn’t everyones cup of tea, but it makes me feel more comfortable and it also lets me be a bit lazy when feeding, so I do what is best for me.  Anyways, since I am a co-sleeper I like to be able to designate a space not on me for Emmy, and this is what I use the sleep positioner for.  The first thing I noticed when I pulled it out of the box was the fact that it is very comfortable; slightly squishy and it makes me jealous that my bed is nowhere near that comfortable.  Besides being designed to provide a comfortable laying area, the memory foam also helps to prevent flat head syndrome…you know when babies lay on their head so much that it starts to flatten out?  The Secure Sleeper also has a slight incline to help with breathing and digestion.  Now, all of my kids have liked being on an incline when the sleep.  With Ellie is was simple enough, I just propped myself up on pillows and she slept on my chest, with Eve I fanangled something in her bassinet to make sure that she was up a bit but not rolling everywhere.  Now with Emmy I have something that does the incline for me.  The Secure Sleeper incline is very gentle, so since Emmy likes to be a bit higher from time to time I put a folded blanket underneath of it when it is being used in the pack n’ play or crib.  Another thing that I happen to like about the sleep positioner is that it has adjustable side guards that let you keep baby from rolling all over starting from a small newborn to a bigger infant.
