Ellie’s First Field Trip-To Carter’s Mountain Apple Orchard

Submitted by Victoria Arya on October 28, 2009 – 7:04 am3 Comments

Ellie had her first field trip this week to an apple orchard to go apple picking…hey for a three year old that is a pretty cool trip LOL.  I dropped Eve off at my grandmother’s so I could focus totally on Ellie and met everyone up there…14 three year olds who are really excited about a field trip are hysterical.ellie-apple-orchard

Anyways, once we got going I noticed that once again I had managed to dress myself and Ellie inappropriately…for some reason I can’t seem to dress the kids correctly to save my life.  When it is warm the kids are in long pants and long shirts, when it is cool they are in shorts and tees…no matter how much I try to make sure that I check the weather and everything I also manage to miss.  At the orchard Ellie was dressed not warmly enough…I felt awful so she got to wear my fleece while I suffered through top of the mountain winds.

So, the kids took a hay ride which was boring, at least to me…not a bump in sight LOL.  After that the kiddos got to have a snack of apple cider donuts and apple cider…I have to say that 1 was definitely not enough (and that is why I ended up buying 6 more before we left).  After that we went to pick apples.  So, apparently the orchard people said that they would leave apples on the trees close to the main building…that way the field trip groups wouldn’t have to walk very far…but loe and behold apparently they forgot so imagine 14 preschoolers walking up a good distance of a mountain to get to apple trees with apples still on them…I have to say it was FLIPPIN’ HARD.  Especially when Ellie got tired and needed ellie-apple-orchard-2a ride.  Picture: Me 38 weeks pregnant, huffing up a freakin’ mountain with Ellie on my back getting a piggy back.  Let’s just say I was huffing like an overweight marathoner and my back now hurts something awful…but we made it.

We pick apples…but I am again reminded that it appears that nothing is made for short people…apples apparently like growing on the TOP of the trees.  *SIGH*

Walking down the mountain was actually easyish and the kiddos had a good time.  I think that Ellie enjoyed her first field trip and I know that I had a good time just concentrating on her instead of having to split my time between her and Eve.  I might have to institute something along those lines with the girls to make sure they get enough plain mommy time by themselves.  Before we left we grabbed some more of the donuts (YUMMMM) and then we grabbed an apple pie at the orchard as well…which I am currently chowing down on.  Hey if I am going to get fat…I might as well get fat in style :-P
