Gear Up for Summer Party-Step2 Water Rush Quarry (giveaway)

Submitted by Victoria Arya on May 21, 2009 – 1:00 am1,039 Comments

I have been lusting after a sand and water table for the kids for a long time, I just love the idea of semi-controlled chaos rather than the full out chaos that would happen if I let the kids loose with some dirt and water in my yard.  Have I mentioned that I really don’t like dirt?  So, when Bridgette asked me to participate in a Gear Up For Spring Bloggy Block Party, I knew what I wanted my contribution to be…a Sand and Water Table!  And you guys should know me well enough to know that if I set my mind to something, I am going to find out how to get it!  So, after looking about for a bit, I decided that the sand and water table that I was most interested in was made by Step2, so I contacted them.  Now, usually when I contact a company it takes about a week for them to get back to me…but, I received an email reply that same day saying that Step2 would love to participate in a review and a giveaway and that they love feedback from moms.  So, I was sent a Water Rush Quarry sand and water table to review and boy was I excited when it got here!

So, as you can probably imagine, the Water Rush Quarrycame in some pieces so I had to put it together.  The putting together process was easy, although slightly aggravating since I had both kiddos with me when I was doing it…for some reason little kids think it is hystericalto take pieces and run around with them for you can’t finish putting stuff together.  But, like I said the whole putting together process was really easy; you don’t need tools and the instruction book is easy to follow.  Now, I ran into another problem once I put the table together…and that was the fact that I didn’t have any play sand laying about the house…so I filled it up with all water instead.  I really like the fact that the Water Rush Quarry can be one or two “stories” as you can see from the below pictures:

One of the things that I did notice was the fact that the accessories like the bridges, the slide and the tunnel, don’t really snap into place which means that the kids can pull them off or they come off with vigorous play…that is one thing that I would suggest making different in subsequent versions of this product.  Now, I am not a handy person…if I have toI can jimmy rig something but I don’t like doing it…but I assume that a handy person would be able to finagle a way for the pieces to stay on…glue, a small hole and screw.  But, once I got everything set up and the Quarry filled with water I let the girls have at it.  For about three minutes Eve was happy playing at the edges of the table…and then she got in…fully clothed.  Then of course Ellie wanted to get in…and she did…fully clothed.  But, they both had a blast so it didn’t matter.

So, overall what do I think of the Step2 Water Rush Quarry?  I like it.  I do wish the accessories would stay in place a little better than they do, but beyond that I think it is a fun toy.  Since my girls are a little under the recommended age (3 years) I think I am going to either use it for water or for sand, but not both together since I can see Eve making a GIANT mess.  I also really like that fact that it is really easy to drain and it dries quickly.  Step2 also makes several other products that I am dying to get my hands on for the kids and they include the Whopper Bouncer, the Naturally Playful Picnic Table with Umbrella, and the Wagon for Two Plus!
