Alright, this might make me an awful, horrible, terrible, lazy mom, but I happen to firmly believe in the following statement: Chicken Nuggets are a staple food of childhood *insert hellfire raining down on me for that statement*. Oh well, there you have it. I considering chicken nuggest to be a childhood food staple and I am not afraid to admit that fact. I also believe in buying chicken nuggets (and other things) in bulk which is why we have a standing relationship with Sam’s Club…10lb bags of chicken nuggets in dino shapes…what more could you ask for?
Alright, I know that I need to make sure my kiddos eat healthy well balanced meals…but can I just say that chicken nuggets are PROTEIN? And I know that we have an obsesity epidemic, but both my kids are average healthy weights and are active…and both hubby and I are as well. So yeah, it may make me a bad mom…but chicken nuggets are this mom’s best friend.
PS-Ellie already knows which chicken nuggets she likes best…and they are from Chik-Fil-A.

Chicken nuggets aren’t that bad if they’re baked instead of fried. We occasionally let our kids eat fast food but they are more interested in the fries than the nuggets for some reason. If we eat nuggets at home I make them myself so I can use chicken breasts and add some healthy ingredients in the coating
This is the recipe I use http://bit.ly/i8uY8. I make extra of the coating so I can quickly whip these up.
Not saying you have to make your own but it’s easy enough to do and it makes me feel less guilty.
While I agree that chicken nuggets are protein, just make sure they’re not a daily/weekly thing.

What chicken nuggets look like before they’re shaped and breaded.

oh thank goodness your normal
And I’ll add that I give chicken nuggets to my daughter. She loves them, they’re fast and convenient, and she doesn’t eat a lot of crap, so I feel perfectly okay giving them to her. With all the fruit and dairy the child eats, I don’t feel guilty at all giving her nuggets a few times a month. Now, if I could only get her to eat some veggies…
I seriously, don’t think there’s anything wrong with keeping chicken nuggets in your freezer. It’s smart to keep something on hand that’s easy that you know your children will eat without a fight. If it makes you feel better, you can throw a little salad or raw veggies with dip onto their plate along with the chicken nuggets.
Actually my daughter is not a chicken nuggets fan, but the kraft macaroni and cheese .. if I could buy a truck load she would be happy.
I so agree with that! I want to be more healthy, but with my 3 kids, I don’t think I could find the time too! They aren’t that bad anyways…
We don’t eat a lot of ‘fast food’. So chicken nuggets aren’t exactly a staple of our diet. However, I’m sure I’m going to hear about it when the kids become teenagers. Because they probably are going to say that they missed out. All they get here is home cooked meals and dishes they probably wouldn’t have chosen to eat if they were around other kids more. Like asian noodles or curry.
Mmmm curry….
Chicken nuggets ROCK! Don’t worry what other people say or think. If your child eats a well balance meal during most of the time and her doctor says she/he is healthy and properly nourished, tell them to go away!!!
Have a great weekend!
Dont feel guilty. My kids have chicken nuggets for dinner a few times a week. My kids are picky so this is one thing they will eat without a fight, hey works for me!
You are normal. Yesterday I cleaned out the freezer (real reason), but told my kids we were having a “fun” lunch to use up a few of this and that. My kids at chicken nuggets, tater tots, mini pizzas, pot pies, etc for lunch. Don’t you hate have just a bit left in each box/bag in the freezer? Too much to throw away, not enough to make another meal.
You honestly shouldn’t feel guilty in my humble opinion. If the worst thing you do to your kids is feed them chicken nuggets they are truly fortunate children. I think its the hallmark of a good mother who worries about falling short in such an egregious manner as a protein rich meal.
I babysit my 13 month old granddaughter daily and had contemplated as to whether I should give her chicken nuggets or not as I am trying to keep her away from breaded and fattening foods. Finally one evening a few weeks back it was getting near suppertime and I didn’t know what to make. There was a box of chicken nuggets in the freezer so I figured what the heck, lets see if she likes them. Turns out she does with some ketchup on the side but she only ate a few along with some green beans and potatoes. I wouldn’t make a point of giving this to her on a regular basis but once in awhile is fine. Growing children need a variety in their diet. Thanks for letting me voice my opinion.
